High Energy Bills Approaching

High Energy Bills Approaching

It is that time of the year, high energy bills are approaching. The lowest temperatures of the year are around the corner. It’s in the forecast that next Wednesday, yes in 2 days, a winter blizzard will arrive in North Texas. As we experienced last year with the Valentine’s Winter Storm last year, many of us took us by surprise. Blackouts across Texas, water, wood, and many essential supplies were in shortage. At the same time, high energy bills are approaching.

Winter Storm Preparedness. High Energy Bills Approaching

As much as we would like to, we should stay calm, not panic and be ready for what is to come. Water, food, and ways to keep us warm are essentials. Check your heating system, and see if your heating system has ‘emergency heat’ mode. So, time is running out, try to find your supplies as soon as possible. However, don’t panic, take what you need and leave some for others that will need it too. Have your power outage kit in hand with; batteries, power banks for your cell phones, candles, matches, lighters, hand warmers, chlorine to disinfect water, etc. Then, think about what you have in your fridge and freezer and see if you can salvage any of that food after a power outage.

Lower your electricity bill now

The next suggestion will help you to keep your home as warm as possible and will lower your energy bill.

Seal doors and windows to keep any air leaks. Keep your fireplace lit and keep a water container close to the fireplace. So, never use a propane heater inside the house. Save as much electricity as you can.

Save electricity will help others too

In like manner, saving electricity will help others. In the case that you have power at home, however, there are other areas close to you that lost power. By saving electricity at home, you will help the energy grid. The utility to fix the problem faster and have the power back on in those areas without power.

So, let’s not repeat the same mistakes we did last year. For many, last year was disastrous. Help others as much as you can, however, you and your family come first. Keep in mind that this will only last for a few days, no need to panic.
