Home Electricity Assistance Program

The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs put together the Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program. As the other assistances like Medicaid, Housing, etc. The Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) is a utility assistance program. CEAP is designed to assist low-income households in meeting their immediate energy needs and to encourage consumers to control energy costs for years to come through energy education. The CEAP involves the integration of all LIHEAP-funded programs, thereby enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of services provided to clients and eliminating duplication of services. The CEAP is administered through sub-recipients, which collectively cover all 254 counties of the state. Source: https://www.tdhca.state.tx.us/community-affairs/ceap/

What will the Home Electricity Assistance Program do for those who qualify?

This program will help to pay from 6 to 8 of the highest electricity bills of the year. Most likely, this will be 4-5 months of the summer and 3-4 months of the winter. To be honest with you, I don’t use that assistance, But I know that the energy companies must help with this. They apply the discount, then they charge the program.

Most importantly, you need to understand that the energy companies are not the ones who qualify the customer. The customer needs to apply for the Home Electricity Assistance Program. After the assistance is approved, the customer must submit the proper documentation to the electricity company, then, it will be reviewed and verified with the State.
