It’s that time of the year when it’s ok to turn off your A/C or heating system. Even though we have some cold nights and hot days, our homes hold comfortable temperatures.

I suggest talking to your family about your home expenses. This winter was cold and the winter energy bills are about to hit our expenses.

Turn off your A/C

This one needs a vacation too

Give a little vacation to your thermostat

Also, we are about to hit spring break. With that said, some of you will be out having a relaxed and deserved time away from home. We can give a little time off to our thermostat so the A/C and heating system stop running. Still, there are some precautions if you are going to turn off your thermostat. Also, you can do a few tricks to save energy and lower your electricity bill while you are on vacation.

Save Electricity While on Vacation

  1. Check the weather forecast for future extreme weather. If it’s too humid, leave your thermostat on AUTO at 66°F.
  2. Make sure you water your plants or have the watering globes
  3. Close curtains and blinds, this is also for your home’s security
  4. Set the water heater thermostat to “vacation” or “away” mode
  5. Make sure there are no water leaks, especially the hot taps
  6. Unplug all electronic devices and appliances
  7. Try to run out of food from the fridge

These are just a few suggestions on what to do to save energy while you are on vacation.

However, there are some of us who will stay home and have the kids home from Spring Break. Here is what we can do to save a few bucks on our next energy bill.

Saving Energy While Staying Home on Spring Break

  1. Take time to find air leaks and fix them
