Electricity Express Checklist for Moving into a New Home

Just remember that your electricity is a priority. Important Checklist for Moving into a New Home

Electricity service is as important as the moving truck.

A checklist is your best friend.  Without one, moving into a new home is guaranteed to be a headache.  The key to your sanity is organization and preparing as far ahead as possible.  Read through the advice offered by Electricity Expressand you will finish the move with a smile on your face.  It can be done.

1. Choose Where to Write Down Your Plan – No matter how great your memory, moves are so stressful that you’re bound to forget something.  Avoid this by writing down your to-do list.  It can be as simple as grabbing a notebook or calendar and jotting down deadlines.  Or you could use Microsoft’s OneNote http://www.onenote.com/ to keep track of everything.  Either way, be sure to write down all important dates and then check it every day.

2. Create Deadlines for Your Checklist – This site www.realsimple.com/home-organizing/organizing/moving/moving-checklist-00000000000208/ outlines the stages of a move and its timeframes.  Everyone has different needs – families vs. singles, houses vs. apartments, etc.  However, the basics remain the same.  Adjust the list as needed.

3. Grab Anything That Can Be Used as a Box – If you’re using a moving van, then you’ll be stuck with using real boxes.  But if you’re using your car or a friend’s truck, then be practical.  That laundry basket or (clean) trash can be filled with books, clothes and other non-breakables.  Besides, do you really want to buy a box?  http://www.officemax.com/office-supplies/shipping-mailing-supplies/boxes-shipping

4.  Double-Check Your Mover’s Reputation – If possible, see what others have said about your mover  www.angieslist.com.  But keep in mind that broken dishes aren’t necessarily the fault of the mover; it could have happened because of bad packing by the homeowner.

5. Use It or Get Rid of It – Check expiration dates on food.  Eat anything that’s about to expire; throw out that can of soup that’s been in your pantry for several years.

6. Pack – Keep it logical.  Write on the outside of boxes several things: what room (kitchen, bathroom, etc.) and what’s inside.  Be sure to note if there’s anything fragile or if the box can’t be tipped over.  The first things you pack should be stuff you don’t use very often, including holiday decorations and the waffle iron.  Pack your tools last.

7.  Guard Valuable Items and Papers – Create a box full of things that can’t be easily replaced, including passports, birth certificates, photos, jewellery, etc.  This is a box that should go with you in the car, never with the movers.

8. Clean-Up – This will go more easily if you clean a little every day.  One night defrost and clean the refrigerator/freezer.  Another night does the windows.  Put this on your checklist and stick to it.  The worst thing you can do is leave it all to the last day.  If you are renting a house or apartment, be sure to follow the move-out guidelines to avoid any financial penalties.

9.  Turn Off/On Your Utilities – Make sure your service in your old home ends at the correct time.  Be especially sure that you’ll have power in your new home.  This post explains more about the process  https://www.electricityexpress.com/turning-electricity-new-home/.  If the worst happens and you forgot to arrange for power in your new home, Electricity Express can do same day service if you call before 5:00 pm CST, Monday-Saturday.

10. Buy Dinner For Everyone Who Helped – Yes, this is a form of bribery.  But it’s a nice thing to do.

Moves are complicated no matter what you do.  But preparation will always make things easier. Important Checklist for Moving into a New Home
