Winter Energy-Saving Ideas that Will Put Money Back into Your Wallet

These winter energy-saving ideas can put money back into your hands and make your life a little less stressful.  Most of us wouldn’t mind some financial help, right?  Your #Electricityexpress team dishes up a few suggestions that are easy to do and are practical as well.  You don’t have to live in an igloo to save energy this winter.

Save Energy During the Winter

  • Find and fix those drafty windows.  Maybe you don’t have a hole in your window, but that doesn’t mean warm air isn’t leaking out of your house.  Inspect each window very closely to be sure everything is sealed properly.  If not, fix it as soon as possible.  Your friendly Lowes or Home Depot store employs experts who can help you with insulating your home with weather stripping for doors and windows.
  • Let the sun do its job.  If your home gets plenty of sunlight, use that to your advantage.  Don’t be afraid to turn down the thermostat during the daytime and let the sunlight warm up a room.  At night, of course, raise the temperature again and close the curtains to prevent heat from escaping.
  • Turn down the thermostat at night.  I lived in Guatemala and Peru in the highlands during the winter months, and it got down to freezing every night in both countries.  Neither hotel had heat, yet I slept warm and snug in warm pajamas and under five blankets.  I’m not suggesting that you turn off your heat completely.  I’m just saying that with a few blankets and comfortable pajamas, you don’t need the temperature as high as you’d think to stay warm.
  • Make sure you’re using Energy-Star appliances.  Few things waste electricity as shamelessly as inefficient appliances.  Water heaters and furnaces need to operate at peak efficiency to use energy correctly.  Be certain that yours are doing their jobs correctly.

Texas winters may be unpredictable, but they always come.  Spring is around the corner, but we could get snow as late as March. We all must be careful in how we use energy, both to save money and our planet.  Remember that at Electricity Express, we are always here to help you.  Please follow our blog for more friendly advice on improving your home and the world we all live in.
